- Prop 30 - Education Protection Act | Sunol Glen School
Proposition 30, also known as the Education Protection Act, was a California ballot measure passed in 2012. It increased the state sales tax by 0.25% and raised income taxes on individuals earning over $250,000 annually, with the goal of funding public education, including K-12 schools and community colleges, as well as supporting public safety services. The revenue from this proposition was intended to ensure stability for education programs in the face of budget cuts. Home > Prop 30 - Education Protection Act > Education Protection Act Prop 30 Budget & Audit Reports ESSER III Plan LREBG Expenditure Report Prop 28 - Arts & Music Prop 30 - Education Protection Act The Education Protection Act (EPA) is a law that was passed in California in 2012 to ensure that certain state funding for K-12 public schools is used specifically for educational purposes. It was part of a broader initiative following the passage of Proposition 30, which increased taxes in order to stabilize the state's budget and prevent cuts to education. Under the EPA, a portion of the revenue from the increased taxes (mainly on higher-income earners and sales taxes) is designated for K-12 education, and school districts are required to spend these funds on direct services to students, such as hiring teachers, maintaining classrooms, and improving educational programs. The key idea behind the EPA is to protect education funding from being diverted to other state budget needs. The law also includes transparency provisions, requiring school districts to report how these funds are being spent and ensuring they are used for educational purposes rather than administrative costs or other non-instructional activities. - Attendance Policy | Sunol Glen School
An attendance policy outlines the rules and expectations regarding student attendance in school. It typically includes guidelines on acceptable reasons for absence, the process for notifying the school, and consequences for unexcused absences, aiming to promote consistent student participation and academic success. Home > Resources > Attendance Policy > Attendance Policy Dear Parents/Guardians: In an effort to stress the importance of daily school attendance, we would like to remind you that California Education Law 48200 requires compulsory daily attendance for students 6-18 years of age. Parents/guardians who choose to enroll their children in Kindergarten are subject to this Education Code Law as well. Sunol Glen Unified School District is committed to ensuring academic excellence for our students. Maximizing our children’s achievement must begin with daily school attendance and we feel this is everyone’s responsibility to ensure that success. Daily school attendance must start at home with the importance and value of education being stressed. It is vital for the Sunol Glen Unified School District to build on this value by maintaining the essential partnership between school and home to ensure daily attendance. Our school day begins at 8:30 am. Children are expected to be in their seat and ready to learn at that time. Students are also expected to stay the entire day, which is 8:30 am – 2:50 pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and 8:30 am – 2 pm on Wednesday. All minimum-day dismissals are at 12:00 pm. If your child is absent, you are required to call the school attendance clerk at 925-862-2026 . California Education Code ALLOWS EXCUSED absence for the following five reasons: 1. Illness 2. Medical, dental, and eye appointments (please try & schedule these before or after school) 3. Quarantine (determined by medical professional) 4. Funeral services for immediate family members 5. Court-ordered appearance (filed and signed) The parent/guardian of the student must send a note, email and/or phone the school to clear any of the above-listed excused absences. Failure to excuse the absence will result in a recorded truancy on the student’s permanent record. Be advised that any excused or unexcused absences over ten days are considered excessive. Another way to ensure your child’s daily attendance is by reviewing the school district calendar to plan family holidays and vacations to coincide with school holidays. Parent notification to the school of a student’s absence for a family vacation will result in the loss of instructional time, and parents will be notified of truancy violations as determined by California Ed Code 48200. Some other examples of reasons for absences that are NOT EXCUSED are: ● Visiting Relatives ● Student’s Birthday ●Oversleeping ●Car trouble ● Child care by student at home ● Vacations ● Family moving from one home to another School staff may request your attendance at a conference when your child is absent from school for reasons that are not excused. The district sends notification to parents/guardians of students who accumulate three or more days of unexcused absences and/or tardies. That letter will inform family of potential declaration of truancy on your child’s school record according to Education Code 48260. Please review this attendance information with your child and take the necessary measures to correct any attendance problems. We appreciate your assistance in making school attendance a priority. Thank you for your support. The Sunol Glen Unified School District
